Where Estepona is and what makes it special
Estepona lies on the western side of the Costa del Sol, with Marbella twenty minutes away, Sotogrande and Gibraltar half an hour away, and Málaga Airport around an hour away. The town has a genuinely Andalusian centre that has been carefully restored in recent years, with planted streets, an orchid house, and a promenade that runs for kilometres.
What life is like here
A town that runs all year round
Estepona isn't a seasonal place. Schools, markets, sports clubs, and the hospital keep running in January too, which makes it work just as well for permanent residents as for those here part of the year.
At the harbour and along the promenade you find beach life and fish restaurants, in the centre tapas bars and boutiques. Golfers are ten minutes from Valle Romano, Estepona Golf, and Atalaya, and the mountains of Sierra Bermeja sit right behind the town.
Dutch and Belgian buyers often feel at home here quickly: everything is within walking or cycling distance, it's lively without being overrun, and the community is international without the Spanish character disappearing.
The promenade and the bay
Estepona stretches along a broad, palm-lined seafront promenade. In summer the beach fills with families and sunbathers, while the historic old town stays just as lively.
