Costa del Sol · Sotogrande
Sotogrande, exclusive, green, and built around golf and polo
A gated, green destination at the westernmost point of the Costa del Sol, known for the Valderrama golf course, international polo tournaments, and a marina that feels more Caribbean than Andalusian.
Location and character
Where Sotogrande is and what makes it special
Sotogrande lies at the westernmost end of the Costa del Sol, close to Gibraltar and around an hour from Málaga Airport. The destination has been deliberately developed since the 1960s as a green, spacious villa area around several golf courses and a marina, and has kept that character to this day.
What life is like here
Calm, space, and international allure
Sotogrande stands out for its scale: wide, green avenues, large plots, and a building density far lower than elsewhere on the coast. Golf plays a central role, with Real Club de Golf Valderrama as the best-known name.
In summer, Sotogrande draws an international crowd for the polo tournaments, while the Puerto Sotogrande marina keeps restaurants and boutiques open year round.
The destination is deliberately quieter and more gated than Marbella or Puerto Banús: here you buy privacy, space, and a setting built for a long stay, not mass tourism.
A green sporting enclave
Beyond the marina and golf courses, Sotogrande has a strong tennis and padel tradition, set in a quiet, green environment.
